He was the son of a pharmicist (or the owner of a pharmacy) and had studied law before the war. When the war broke out he volunteered and was in an artillery unit. Later he transfered to the Air Service where he earned his Iron Cross First Class and Pour le Mérite. He died 29 May 1918 in combat. He was buried in Belgium.
