He was awarded the Pour le Mérite for outstanding leadership and distinguished military planning and succesful operations on the eastern front during June and July, 1916. He was also awarded the Oakleaves on3 April 1918 for outstanding leadership and distinguished military planning and succesful operations on the western front during the German Spring offensive of 1918. SPECIAL NOTE: From 1906 through 1908, Colonel Heye served as a General Staff Officer of Colonial Military Forces in German Southwest Africa.
