Max Hoffmann

He was awarded the Pour le Mérite for outstanding leadership and distinguished military planning and succesful operations during the Russian 1916 Summer and early Fall offensive. He was also awarded the Oakleaves in recognition in repulsing the final major Russian June-July Summer offensive. Also for distinction during the successful German July counteroffensive in East Galicia on the eastern front. Colonel Hoffmann was also decorated with the Knights Cross of the Bavrian Military Max Josef Order on August 3, 1917. He was the fourth of only six non-Bavarian recipients of that award.
