Awarded the Pour le Mérite for outstanding leadership and distinguished military planning and successful operations during the campaigns in France with emphasis on the campagne sector of the western front September 22, 1915. *"At the top of the XVIII. reserve corps in association of the 4. army General von Steuben threw the opponent back to the Marne and led his troops to victory. During the battle in the champaign he supported with his troops the right wing of the 5. army of the prussian crown prince Friedrich Wilhem. At this he succeeded keeping an unfavorable position, so that the losses lasted in tolerable size.

He lived from 1855 - 1935.
