He was awarded the Pour le Merite for outstanding leadership and distinguished naval planning and successful operations. Admiral von Capelle was also awarded the Grand Cross of the Red Eagle Order with Oakleaves, Swords and Crown by Wilhelm II. This was awarded by the Kaiser personally.
